Traditional Funeral

A funeral as individual as the person you love

Every person is different, and every family has their own wishes about how they want to say goodbye.

At J Parkinson & Sons, we believe a traditional funeral should be personal. We take the time to listen to you, understand what matters to your family and arrange a funeral that reflects the life and personality of your loved one.

With more than 150 years of experience caring for families in Rotherham, our experienced team will guide you through every decision, from the first arrangements to the day of the funeral and beyond.

A traditional funeral, arranged with care, dignity and attention to every detail.

What is a Traditional Funeral?

A traditional funeral usually involves a funeral service attended by family and friends, followed by either a burial or cremation.

It can be as formal or as personal as you wish.

You may choose to have the service at:

  1. A local church
  2. A crematorium
  3. Another suitable place of worship
  4. Another venue appropriate for the service

We can help you decide what is right for your family and explain all the options available.

Creating a funeral that reflects their life

There is no standard funeral at J Parkinson & Sons.

We can help you incorporate the things that made your loved one who they were.

This might include:

Music

Choose the songs or pieces of music that remind you of them, whether traditional, religious or something completely personal.

Readings and tributes

A minister, celebrant, family member or friend can share readings, memories and personal tributes.

Flowers

From traditional floral arrangements to something completely personal, we can help arrange flowers that reflect your loved one's personality.

Personal touches

Photographs, favourite possessions, hobbies, interests and other personal details can all help make the funeral uniquely theirs.

The order of service

We can help you create an order of service that provides a lasting keepsake for family and friends.

Your funeral, your choices

We understand that arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming.

There can seem to be an endless number of decisions to make.

That's why our role is not to tell you what you should have.

We explain your choices and help you decide what feels right.

We can arrange:

  1. Burial or cremation
  2. Hearse and funeral vehicles
  3. Limousines
  4. Pallbearers
  5. Coffins
  6. Ministers and celebrants
  7. Church or crematorium services
  8. Floral tributes
  9. Orders of service
  10. Music
  11. Personal tributes
  12. Viewing and time with your loved one
  13. Memorial arrangements
  14. Ashes and keepsakes

We'll discuss the options with you and provide a clear estimate so you understand the costs before making your decisions.

Caring for your loved one

Before the funeral, your loved one will be cared for by our experienced team.

We understand how important it is to families to know that the person they have entrusted to us is being treated with dignity and respect.

Our facilities include our own Chapel of Rest, providing a peaceful environment where, when appropriate, family members can spend time with their loved one.

If you would like to discuss viewing or spending time with your loved one, we'll explain the options available to you.

On the day of the funeral

Our experienced funeral directors will be there to ensure everything runs smoothly.

We'll coordinate the arrangements, liaise with the relevant people and make sure you know what is happening.

You shouldn't have to worry about the practical details on the day.

Our job is to look after those details so that you can concentrate on saying goodbye.

Traditional doesn't have to mean formal

Although we call this a Traditional Funeral, there is no requirement for it to follow a particular formula.

You can have a traditional funeral with very personal touches.

It might be:

Religious or non-religious.

Formal or relaxed.

Large or small.

Traditional or completely personal.

What matters is that it feels right for you and reflects the person you are remembering.

An alternative if you want something smaller

If you want a funeral service but don't need a large traditional funeral, you may want to consider our Private Chapel Funeral.

Our own Chapel of Rest can accommodate up to 15 mourners, providing an intimate setting for a simple funeral service.

It can be an ideal option for families who want to come together and say goodbye, without the expense and formality of a larger funeral.

A simple funeral. A personal goodbye.

An alternative if you don't want a service

Some families prefer not to have a funeral service at the time of cremation.

Our Direct Cremation provides a simple alternative, with your loved one remaining in the care of J Parkinson & Sons.
